I have seen a number of published figures in this range (300,000-800,000),
referenced on the www.adherents.com website. I would be interested in finding out
how these were obtained, as well. Maybe it's just unreliable statistical
sampling, the same that produced the oft-quoted 28,000 a few years ago.
In light of such wild variations, the published 130-140 thousand seems
much more reasonable.
