Star of the West proofed through Ministry of 'Abdu'l-Baha

Postby brettz9 » Tue May 06, 2014 11:30 pm

Hi all,

Just a heads up that Star of the West has been proofed (to varying degrees/standards) up through volume 12, thereby covering just a little beyond the end of the Ministry of 'Abdu'l-Baha.

Besides covering the early history of the Faith in the West, the Star of the West, has a great deal of Tablets and some quotations, particularly, I believe, in the case of 'Abdu'l-Baha's writings, which are not readily found elsewhere if at all, online or offline.

Page anchors are also present within the code, meaning that one can link directly to any specific page by adding "#pg" and the page number at the end of the URL, e.g., "#pg25" (though since a wiki is open to public editing and thus temporary vandalism, use it with that precaution in mind). However, feel free to reference these links in online wiki compilations such as http://bahai9.com (at least until such time as we can complete things enough to port them to a non-publicly editable site like at http://bahai-library.com/star_of_the_west ).

There are a few pages across the issues which are in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, or Esperanto and whose scan quality was not quite adequate enough for transcription by a non-native speaker, so we would benefit from someone familiar with these languages confirming the accuracy or making fixes on the few relevant pages (in the case of Japanese, no attempt was made given them being a non-Latin alphabet).

In the case of Persian, many of the volumes have several pages of text which could be typed (or scanned and OCR'd if you have a Persian-aware scanner), so that would be a fair amount of work, but it would be a most welcome addition! (place-markers have been left within the text for "--PERSIAN TEXT--", though these usually occur at the end of the issue).

Most of the issues have not been fully formatted, so we could still use a lot of help in formatting also. And exactly 5000 pages remain to be sliced, OCR'd, and/or proofed (for volumes 13-25), so we'd love help there too!

Warmest regards,
Brett
