Hurufu'l-hayy were the Bab's Letters of the Living. The Concise Baha'i Encyclopedia makes no mention of them being apostates this is not to say they could not have been however. Also, 'apostate' may refer to one who left the Faith or did not become Baha'i. To the person who posted this message: it has been said in numerous places that the closer you get to the manifestation the more you are tested. So thats why many of the holy family became 'apostates' and indeed, even Baha'u'llah's own amanuensis. The Hurufu'l-hayy were not perfect, they were humans who were tested like all of us. Whether they failed their test or not is nothing to do with the validity of the faith - it is to do with them as individuals.
