Many years ago, 'Abdu'l-Baha revealed a tablet to a handmaid in which He stated that "it is incumbent upon the Spiritual Assemblies to provide the mothers with a well-planned programme for the education of children, showing how, from infancy, the child must be watched over and taught." He went on to say that, "These instructions must be given to every mother to serve her as a guide, so that each will train and nurture her children in accordance with the Teachings." (p 138 Selections from the Writings of 'Abdu'l-Baha 1978) There are some wonderful materials currently in use: the Core Curriculum Parent Training Course, the Ruhi course on teaching children's classes, and the Family Virtues Guide on character development, but I am sensing that a systematic on-going program for every mother in every community is needed. Something that can be as regular and as nourishing as mother's milk. I think we have yet to respond adequately to 'Abdu'l-Baha's instructions. Does anyone know of any such programmes in operation anywhere? Is there anyone who has a vision of what such a programme would look like, feel like, act like? Is there someone who would like to arise to help to develop this most urgent and noble need as a service to the present and future community? Materials can be sent to me at 173 Griffith St., Rochester, NY 14607 and replies can be e-mailed to sueemmel@earthlink.net.
