If you note, the editors have taken out both the letter of the universal house of justice and Cole criticism (which included all kinds of unsubstantiated claims not related to the tablet itself). This is a Baha'i site and adhere to Baha'i standards. This site has posted articles by authors like the Christian apologist which disagree and criticize the Faith. The problem with Mr. Juan Cole comments was that it was introduced as a comment on the subtleties of translation from Arabic to English but it went off on a tangent with all kinds of comments which were inappropriate.

As for "independent investigation of truth", the Baha'i view is that when you find the truth, you follow it. It's like drinking the medecine when one is ill.
When you find the "truth" or medecine, you stick to it because it will heal you. It's not a relativistic approach to truth like you might find in the Unitarian church where everything is questionable and there is no standard.
