MAYOR WILL JOIN INTERFAITH GROUP'S KING CELEBRATION

VALENCIA - The Santa Clarita Interfaith Council will observe the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. at a 7 p.m. celebration Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 24443 W. McBean Parkway, Valencia.

The theme of the interfaith celebration will be "Character Counts." Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth will join clergy and members of congregations represented on the SCV Interfaith Council.

Also featured will be music and prayers by local Interfaith participants.

Members of the council are the Bahai's of Santa Clarita, The Church of Hope, Congregation Beth Shalom, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Friendly Valley United Methodist Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, St. Clare's Catholic Church, Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Or Emet, Methodists, Science of Mind, Sonshine Christian Church and Valencia United Methodist Church.

Monetary donations will be accepted on behalf of the Food Pantry located at The Church of Hope in Canyon Country.
