RELIGION

From Baha'i to Zoroastrianism

Newsweek, January 17, 2000

The Web is a flood of religious information, which is why http:// Beliefnet.com may be the portal we've been praying for. "The difference b etween us and the other sites is that we're not pushing a particular religion," says editor Steve Waldman (who used to work for NEWSWEEK). It's much-needed journalism, he says, not proselytism. "Something Wiccan This Way Comes" and "Are Bush and Gore Closet Buddhists?" are typical cheeky headlines. The site will soon add an online store, a move that is raising some eyebrows. Ecumenical e-commerce may seem ungodly, but, as business models go, it could be divine.
